At-Risk Student Progress Monitoring System Encouraging At-Risk Students to be Thoughtful Leaders who Care (TLC)

Plant High School is a high-performing academic institution with a rich history, towering expectations, and a competitive culture among the student body and community at large. Sitting in a high socio-economic area of Tampa, Plant high school has a reputation for success on every level. However, the school also has a small population of students who struggle to meet this standard. Often, these students are a minority or from lower socio-economic areas within the school boundaries. Due to the small number of students on campus who struggle to meet the standard, Plant is not provided with the resources or personnel within our centralized district budget.

While many plans and efforts have been implemented, success has been limited, as our at-risk student population continues to struggle academically, socially, and often emotionally, leading to failure and drop-out. Over the course of the past year, we have designed a system to identify these students early, track their progress throughout the year, provide interventions, relay communications across faculty, implement support, and build connections through their 4 years in high school to bolster the students’ success and build capacity for our entire staff to meet the needs of our at-risk students.
